At Monday Morning Meeting, Drink Local Drink Tap came to talk to us and show gratitude for our donations we made last year from our Holiday Shop earnings. We plan to donate proceeds to them this year too! Students got to share all the things they are thankful for! After reading Strega Nona's Harvest, we had our own harvest and made vegetable soup! We cut up all the veggies and waited all day as it cooked and smelled so good! We read this Science article about how people race pumpkin boats! We learned that pumpkins float... but we wanted to test it and prove it on our own, so we did! Our results were that everything floated, including a banana WITH its peel. The only thing that sank was a banana WITHOUT a peel! Hmm... that one made us think! We tested small pumpkins... but does a giant pumpkin really float? YES! Since we were exploring pumpkins, we had to make pumpkin pie! We couldn't believe that the mushy guts that are inside a pumpkin are the same thing that is inside the can! The whole first floor of the school smelled so good from these things! We read all about the Pilgrims and Indians. First we read an article from the Indians perspective, and then we read an article from the Pilgrims perspective. It was finally time to eat! Everyone was proud of their hard work and enjoyed the food we made!
